Dog Grooming

Dog grooming is one of important aspects of pet care. Like you, your dog also needs to look and feel good. In fact, grooming is a nice way to express your love and affection for your dear pet. Though your canine friend would not have to go for a regular bathing session like you, but it requires great deal of cleaning and grooming for its physiological and psychological health.

Dog grooming to a great extent depends upon the breed of dog you possess. Dog breeds like Newfoundland, Pyrenean Shepherd, English Springer Spaniel require heavy grooming while breeds like Great Dane, Australian Shepherd, Bloodhound, need less grooming. The dogs like the Afghan Hound, American Foxhound, English Cocker Spaniel have moderate grooming needs and canine breeds like the Akita, Pug, Boxer, Bulldog, Chihuahua have minimal grooming needs.

Dog Grooming Basics

Hair Brushing – Most dogs enjoy hair brushing. Though the brushing needs of a dog depend upon the length of the hair, you may brush the hair of your pet on a regular basis if it really enjoys it. Dogs having long hair require daily brushing while dogs of medium length may go for once in a week. The dogs with very less hair can be stayed without brushing for almost a month.

Nail trimming – Owners need to be careful while trimming the nails. If the nails are cut too short an aversion grows in pets towards it as it involves pain. So, ideally you should get trained in trimming nails of your pet from a professional groomer or a vet physician.

Bathing – Bathing may not be fun for many dogs. Though necessary for keeping pets clean and germ free, but they should not be taken for bathing everyday. Get yourself trained from professional groomers. Select the right shampoo that goes well with the fur and coat of your dog.

Dog ears are often the safe place for bacterial and yeast growth. So, groomers should know the right way of cleaning the ears properly without irritating the dog. For a hair cut of your fluffy dog you are recommended to depend upon a professional groomer.
